Client: Optum
Agency: TekSystems
Role: Senior Product / UX Designer
Team: StepWise
Summary
I worked on Optum's StepWise Product Lifecycle Manager (PLM), an enterprise platform that centralizes plan and benefit information for health plans. PLM serves as a single source of product truth for product managers, actuaries, underwriters, compliance teams, and sales.

Problem
Health plans relied on fragmented tools and manual processes to manage product definitions, benefit rules, compliance checks, and plan customization. This created slow time-to-market, inconsistent data, and high operational overhead across the product-to-quote-to-cash lifecycle.
Solution
I redesigned key PLM workflows and interfaces by:
- Streamlining product and benefit configuration flows
- Improving usability of dense data tables, rule engines, and Excel-based tools
- Enhancing product visualization and workflow transparency
- Aligning the experience with Optum's enterprise design system
Impact
- Faster product development cycles and improved speed?to?market
- Greater accuracy through clearer validation and centralized data
- Stronger compliance via more intuitive rule?building patterns
- Improved collaboration across product, actuarial, underwriting, and sales teams
- A scalable foundation for plan customization and downstream integrations
